What We’ve Accomplished
In June of 2006, I was asked by Pastor Mena of Apoka, Kenya to come to Kenya and help him and the people of the Luo tribe. I told Him I would pray about it, and if God wanted me to, I would come and help him. I asked God for a missionary to help me, and then I asked God for money to start this work with. The very next day, the best Missionaries I know, Tamara and Tony Adams, called me and told me that they had sold everything and was going to Kenya to do a work. That was the answer to my first fleece. About an hour after that, I got a call from a very Godly lady in Tennessee, she asked me if I had something before God and when I told her yes, she asked me if it concerned money. I told her that I had asked God for help to start a work in Kenya. She then asked would ten thousand dollars get it started, I said yes.
The next day she gave me more than what she had said to get the work started there, and before the day was over I had over thirty five thousand dollars to start the work with.. An evangelist friend of mine, by the name of Donnie Edwards, and I went to Kenya to begin the work. We had a crusade in Apoka, Kenya. Six churches came out of that crusade. We bought an acre of land in Kisumu, Kenya to build our headquarters on.
When I came back to America I began to raise money to help Pastor Mena build a church, a school, and an orphanage. We also leased ten acres of land to begin a farm. We dug four fish ponds to raise fish in. We started a store so the people of the Luo tribe could buy stuff on consignment, so they could raise their own crops with. Three years later, the school is done and we had our first graduation this year, all the kids graduated with honors. The orphanage is finished and we have it is full of kids. They all graduated to the next grade level with honors. In Kenya, we can teach kids out of the Bible. On our headquarters site in Kisumu, some friends of mine, donated money to dig a well and put a tower and water pump to distribute the water. We also built Pastor George Ogega a house there. Our next project will be a school and an orphanage where our Headquarters are at.
My work in Africa so far has been with Pastor Mena in Apoka. We have helped him with the farm, the fish ponds, the store, the orphanage, the school and his church. This has been an effort that has been supported by different churches and people. The land in Kisumu with the well has been Refuge Missionaries effort. We purchased that land and dug the well. Our next project will be to build a church in Kisumu with a school and maybe an orphanage. I plan on starting that project as soon as I can.
A few years ago I had a dream that I was in Kenya and someone asked me where I was going. I told them I was going to Mombasa to build a new church. I e-mailed Pastor Ogolla about this dream, and he went to Mombasa, and since his trip to Mombasa, some friends of Refuge Missionaries have Donated enough money to build the Church. Someone in Mombasa gave us 20 acres of land. We now have the Church almost built.
Sister Julie Laporta of Indiana got a burden to dig a well in Kenya. We will have a well dug about the time we get the Church open. I would like to have done all this in Kisumu, where our well is , but God gave me the Dream about Mombasa, and the sponsor sdonated the money especially for that church and well in Mombasa. I am praying that God will make a way to build the Church in Kisumu. Some friends of mine got a Burden for Pastor Nicohlas Otieno in Iganga, Uganda. So they donated the money to build him a church with. With their help we now have a church open in Iganga, Uganda. If anybody wants to help with our projects in Kenya and Uganda, the need is very great there.
